Pre-Bankruptcy Counseling

In late October of 2005 CCCS of South Texas began conducting pre-bankruptcy counseling to the 20 counties we serve in South Texas. Pre-bankruptcy counseling consists of all elements of a regular budget counseling including establishing a budget, assessing debt levels and other financial issues. At the completion of the counseling a certificate is issued to meet the credit counseling requirement of the current bankruptcy law. Our fee for issuing the required certificate is $25 for an individual or $35 for couples by check or money order to cover our costs in providing the service.

CCCS is "approved to issue certificates in compliance with bankruptcy code. Approval does not endorse or assure the quality of the agency's services" by the Executive Office of the United States Trustee.
