Requesting a Free Credit Report
Begining June 1, 2005 Texans will be eligible for a free credit report from the three major credit bureaus once every 12 months. There are three ways in which to request the reports:

Via mail at Annual Credit Report Request Service

Information you will need to receive your credit reports:
Name, address, social security number and date of birth. If you have moved in the last two years, you may have to provide your previous address. In order to maintain the security of your file, each nationwide credit reporting company may ask you for additional information that only you should know, like the amount of your monthly mortgage payment. Each company may ask you for different information in order to verify your identity. You will not receive a free copy of your credit score only the credit report.
Additonal reports:
The three credit reports can be obtained at one time or separately. You will receive each report free every 12 months depending on the time last requested. If you need an additional credit report more than once per year you will be required to pay for the reports or qualify for a free report due to one of the following: (1) you are unemployed and plan to look for work within 60 days, (2) you are on public assistance, (3) your report is inaccurate because of fraud or (4) you have been turned down for credit in the last 60 days.
