Counseling Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a counseling session last?
The typical budget counseling session lasts 60 to 90 minutes. It depends greatly on how much information you have provided on the counseling information form and your financial concerns.
Does CCCS charge a fee for counseling?
No. CCCS of South Texas does not currently charge a fee. We receive funding from a variety of locations including grants, donations, creditor support, fundraisers, and client fees from our Debt Management Program.
Is the counseling confidential?
Yes. Our counselors and staff must abide by a strict policy of confidentiality. The only time we will release information is at your written request or government subpoena.
Are CCCS counselors certified?
Yes. Our counselors must study and pass a series of counseling tests within their first year of employment in order to remain a counselor with CCCS. The tests include all aspects of counseling including budgets, credit, housing and other financial issues. All the CCCS of South Texas counselors are also certified housing counselors. They have taken an additional test to specialize in foreclosure, delinquency and other housing related issues.
