Budget Counseling

Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) of South Texas offers free budget counseling whether you are living paycheck to paycheck or dealing with debt issues. Our credit counselors can help you with your money management challenges. CCCS counselors are certified through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC). They must pass a series of tests within the first year of employment with CCCS as well as maintain a continuing education plan in order to maintain certification. Please know that many pseudo counseling services you see on television are actually telemarketers and do not provide real counseling. Certification is an important CCCS difference.

A typical counseling session lasts about an hour to an hour and a half with re-counseling as an option if more time is needed for your situation. At CCCS of South Texas our counseling sessions are free of charge and cover a wide variety of issues including budgeting, debt management, credit reports, Pre Bankruptcy Counseling and housing. Prior to a counseling session we ask you to develop a rough budget and bring in your latest creditor statements for review. This information is vital for the counselor to get a realistic picture of your current situation. During the counseling session we will discuss your goals, current budget, and recommendations from the counselor. You will leave CCCS with a plan of action which you and your counselor have developed.

At CCCS of South Texas we prefer to counsel you face to face so we understand your specific situation and can meet your needs. Our certified counselors can also conduct telephone counseling if it is an emergency situation or transportation is an issue. CCCS of South Texas serves the following twenty counties of Texas: Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Calhoun, Cameron, De Witt, Duval, Goliad, Hidalgo, Jackson, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Starr, Victoria, and Willacy.
